Spirit versus money – K.B

Spirit versus money

Two lovers
Enthralled

Were sailing
On a river.

It wasn’t
A quiet
Cruise.

They splashed
Eachother
While being
Boisterous.

The parents
Were watching
In the sun
Under an
Umbrella.

The sun
Is way
Too hot

While the
Flame of love
Drove their
Two kids
Half naked
In the water.

The father
Heightens
An eyebrow
And whispers
To his wife :

 » This boy
Has too
Much spirit
For our daughter.
And he’s poor. »

She whispers
Back :
 » But look André,
She seems happy ».

He says :
 » Anyways,
When summer
Will be over,
It will be over »

He smiles reassuringly
To his wife who puts
Her hand into his

While he’s joyously
Pulling on his cigar

And checking time
On his golden
Pocket watch.

He thought
To himself :
« ….and this boy
Will remain
In his countryside
Digging coal
In his factory
While reading
Whitman
To console
Himself

…And will
Surely send
Many intercepted
Letters to which there
Will be no answer ».

 » After all,
The future
Of my kid
Is all that
Matters.

I won’t waste
It on a mine
Worker « .

Another voice
Came into his head :
 » But you could
Make them both
Happy with your
Money and estates ».

Naturally,
He never
Heard
Those
Words.

The two
Young people
Are still playing
Carelessly
In the water,

Overbrimming
Their clammed
Cells with happy
Thoughts.

And summer went
By.

And the two hearts
Were torn apart.

And the parents
Were satisfied,

Taking cold
And well
Intentioned
decisions

But such a wound
Never closes,

Eventually
Turning
To madness

Or a well
Regulated
Life
Accompanied
By the « loving »
Parents ;

Leaving
A shattered
Child,

Eyes empty
And socially
Successful.

Until…

No,

Wait….

Until …

No ,

Wait.

Until…

Until…

Until Fate deals
A sweet card.
